Gowanus Grind-III takes place May 1 from Noon – 4 PM. The Grind celebrates Thomas Greene Park (Third Avenue between Douglass and DeGraw Streets) and features skateboard contests, music and children’s activities.

Sonic Smithy under the direction of Nicole Federici will perform special selections to celebrate GG3 and the arrival of new skate elements. Kids activities include refreshments, silkscreening workshop, inflatables and pet adoptions. (Apply on line and be pre-approved. Inourhandsrescue.org.)

Homage from Smith Street is setting up the skateboard area for the SKATE JAM – show your skills, win some prizes or just be entertained.

The Friends of Douglass-Greene Park (FoDGP)envisions that by 2016 the park will be an inviting place for all sorts of recreation, from cooling off in the pool, to enjoying the skate park, to sitting in the shade of new trees, to taking in cultural events in a new community center.

Phase I of the park could begin this September and be completed by September 2012. Phase I will include the Play Units with the Spray Shower; and Seating/Picnic Area.
