A Look Inside Brooklyn's "F.Martinella" Boar's Head Food Laboratory

The word is getting around that the upcoming "F. Martinella" deli -- at 117/119 Court Street at State in Downtown Brooklyn -- will actually be a Boar's Head consumer testing center.

This confirms what an informed commenter revealed to McBrooklyn back in January.

According to the Brooklyn Paper, the deli will offer Boar’s Head meats and cheeses, as well as salads, soups, coffee and bread baked by locals. As Brooklynites act as "guinea pigs," the partner companies — Boar’s Head Provisions and Deli Holdings LLC — will be "studying customer habits, service and selling programs, and how its products move throughout the store."

A consumer laboratory, huh? Does this mean there will be a lot of free samples on toothpicks? If so, you can count us in!

The rent for the 2,500-square-foot F. Martinella storefront is “at a nosebleed level,” said real estate broker Tim King of CPEX Realty.

The photo above shows that the store is coming together. Might even be ready by the end of September.

Meanwhile, after much speculation, the mysterious, all-knowing commenter revealed the secret of the "F. Martinella" name on the Lost City blog: Boar's Head CEO is Robert S. Martin; their President is Michael Martella

"Martin + Martella = Martinella"

Now why didn't we think of that?
